The Problem

Electromagnetic interference sits at the intersection of multiple rail subsystems, including signalling, rolling stock, traction power, and radio. These systems both emit and absorb electromagnetic energy, making compatibility a whole system challenge rather than a component issue.

Disturbances reduce reliability and can undermine safety, particularly where signalling and train control are involved. Without disciplined engineering and clear evidence, projects face latent risk, delayed approvals, and operational instability once assets enter service.

Our Approach

Concept to certification, compatibility engineered

A structured compatibility strategy is developed from concept through to commissioning. Early stages define EMC requirements, interfaces, and acceptance criteria, including integration with legacy systems.

Compatibility is assessed through analysis, modelling, calculation, and targeted testing. Findings are translated into practical design rules, installation guidance, and mitigation measures suited to real rail environments.

Testing programmes combine laboratory and operational site activities, including pre compliance checks, site surveys, and system level measurements across EMC, EMI, RF, and EMF. Compliance pathways are embedded from the outset, ensuring alignment with international certification regimes and avoiding delays to entry into service.

Training, audits, and quality uplift strengthen internal capability, aligned to recognised frameworks such as ISO IEC 17025, enabling clients to maintain auditable, defensible evidence trails.
